I heart google

Last week I received an invite for an interview at a local contracting firm. I was curious as to where they got my name until I got to the interview and saw a page print of the resume from my web site. This morning I received another email inviting me to apply for a position. I'm fairly certain that a google search for .Net programmers in Wisconsin brought up my resume here as well. Although I'm starting my search for a new job, I haven't posted my resume at any of the job search sites, and if I do I'll probably keep it hidden from the public and only submit it to jobs I'm interested in. I like the idea of a potential employer finding my resume at my web site rather at some place like Monster. Hopefully, it'll show them that I know what I'm doing.

I'd like to think that google and I get along. If you google Curtis Cook, I'm at the top of the list and have been for several years. I credit that with two reasons. One, there probably aren't that many Curtis Cooks out there. And two, I've been working with web sites long enough to know how to write code and content that search engines like. I've been doing some research lately on search engine optimization. At the same time, I started redesigning my Brookfield Consulting web site. The goal of the redesign was to A, make it appear more professional, and B, to see if I could increase the google rankings. Even though it's still a work in progress, it looks better now. But get this. This afternoon I did a search for Consulting Brookfield Wisconsin and up pops Brookfield Consulting at number one. Computer support Brookfield Wisconsin puts it on the first page. Network support Brookfield Wisconsin puts it at the number one listing and web design brookfield wisconsin is at page two. And this is just from working with the content and keywords a bit. I'll have to revisit this again and see if I can do even better.
